Anton Roux has been named as Sri Lanka’s national fielding coach, effective March 7, 2022. Roux, who captained the Netherlands men’s team after playing first-class cricket for South Africa, will be in charge of fielding for all national teams and the High-Performance Center. He previously worked for Nottinghamshire County as an assistant fielding coach.
The Executive Committee also made appointments to the ‘A’, U19, and Emerging squads as part of the HPC’s ongoing restructure.
Sri Lanka which is in a rebuilding phase for a whole now will face Bangladesh in the upcoming Test tour on 15th May. This series will be very important for both the teams as World Test Championship will be at stake. The series will consist of two Test matches which will be played in Bangladesh.
Avishka Gunawardene (head coach) and Upul Chandana (fielding coach) were among those named to the ‘A’ team.
Jehan Mubarak has been named head coach of the U19 team, while Ruwan Kalpage has been named head coach of the Emerging team.
All other appointments, with the exception of Roux’s, took effect on March 1, 2022. Australia will visit Sri Lanka for multi-format series. The long tour will consist of five T20 international five ODIs and two Test matches. The series will be very vital for Sri Lankan Team as they would get match practice against a quality team before T20 World Cup which will be played in October in Australia.
Anton Roux’s first assignment will be against Bangladesh and he will look to make an impact in the first tour itself. The away tours are always tough but the conditions are somewhat similar to Sri Lanka which will help the Lions.
