AUS vs PAK: Australia needed 8 wickets on the fifth day to win the second Test match on Wednesday, March 16. Babar Azam and Abdullah Shafique kept going strong in the first session of the day and took the total ahead. They stitched a brilliant partnership in the first session and took the partnership over 200 runs. Pat Cummins eventually got rid of Abdullah Shafique in the 109th over to give Australia the first breakthrough of the day.
Fawad Alam soon followed him back as he got out after scoring 9 runs in 27 deliveries. Once again, it was Pat Cummins who got the vital breakthrough. Babar Azam, however, held firm at one end and was resolute to bat till the end of the day. M Rizwan joined hands with Babar Azam and the duo took the team closer to the target.
The duo stitched a 115-run partnership for the fifth wicket to leave Australia in a bit of panic. Much to the delight of Australian fans, Nathan Lyon took the important wicket of Babar Azam in the 160th over to, once again, ignite hopes for Australia. Babar Azam missed out on a well-deserved double-century by just 4 runs.
His wicket saw a complete turnaround as Lyon picked the wicket of Faheem Ashraf on the very next delivery and Sajid Khan four overs later. Pakistan suddenly lost seven wickets for 414 runs and needed 3 more wickets to win the match. However, Mohammad Rizwan kept his cool and stayed unbeaten till the very end. He remained unbeaten on 104 runs in 177 balls and the game, eventually, resulted in a draw. Both the first two Tests matches have resulted in draws. The final Test match is scheduled to be played from 21st March to 25th March 2022 at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.
