AUS vs SL: Australia has finished the five-match ODI series against Sri Lanka with a win. Aaron Finch and Co. won the final ODI by 4 wickets on Friday but still Sri Lanka take the series 3-2. Australia, though, ensured they didn’t make it 4-1. Aussies put on a brilliant show with the bowl in the first innings. They managed to pick 8 Sri Lankan wickets for just 85 runs. However, a brilliant 75-ball 75 from Karunaratne meant Sri Lanka managed to score 160 runs at the end of the first innings.
Gunathilaka and Pathum Nissanka didn’t get the team off to a great start and Sri Lanka kept losing wickets thereafter. Kusal Mendis (26 off 40) and Asalanka (14 off 27) tried to get some momentum but couldn’t make it big. For Australia, it was a collective bowling performance.
The likes of Hazlewood, Cummins and Kuhnemann picked two wickets each, while Maxwell and Green picked one wicket each. Australia chased down the score in 39.3 overs. Sri Lanka fought hard with the ball. Aaron Finch got out without evening opening his account, while Warner (10 off 8) and Josh Inglis (5 off 10) also failed to hit the straps.
Australia had lost 4 wickets for just 50 runs on the board. Marnus Labuschagne (31 off 58) and Alex Carey (45 off 65) got a fifty-run partnership to steady the innings. Both, however, got out at an unfortunate time in the innings. However, notable cameos from Glenn Maxwell (16 off 17) and Cameron Green (25 off 26) meant Australia chased down the target in the end with 10 overs remaining in the end.
