AUS-W vs PAK-W: Australian women registered their third consecutive win after beating Pakistan on Wednesday at Edgbaston, Birmingham by 44 runs. Batting first, Australia managed to score 160 runs at the end of the first innings. They didn’t make a great start as Healy got out for just 4 runs. However, Mooney held the fort and put on a sensational knock of 70 runs in 49 balls.
She stayed unbeaten throughout the innings and smashed 8 fours and 1 six during her knock. Tahlia McGrath also played a stellar knock of 78 runs in 51 balls, including 10 fours and 1 six. As for Pakistan, Fatima Sana and Sadia Iqbal picked one wicket each but all the bowlers proved a bit expensive.
In pursuit of the target, Pakistan could only manage to score 116 runs on the board. The likes of Muneeba Ali (0), Iram Javed (6), and Aliya Riaz (1) got out on single-digit scores.
Bismah Maroof (23) and Omaima Sohail (23) looked solid but couldn’t convert that into big scores. Fatima Sana remained unbeaten on 35 off 26 balls but she found little support at the other end.
Australian Women’s Cricket Team put in a collective effort with the ball. Tahlia McGrath was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 for 13 in 3 overs. Besides, the likes of Schutt, Brown, Jonassen and King claimed one wicket each.
With that win, Australia finished the league stage at the top of the Group A table. They are still unbeaten in the tournament. On the other hand, Pakistan failed to win a single game in the event and finished at the bottom spot. They are crashed out of the Commonwealth Games 2022.
