Australia vs Bangladesh: The upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup will take place in October-November window this year. Considering that, the teams have been arranging for the preparatory schedule in order to be fully prepared for the tournament.
And for that, Cricket Australia (CA) on Wednesday confirmed the side would play five T20s against Bangladesh in August. The series will serve as a preparatory outing for Aaron Finch & his men, just after the white-ball series against West Indies in July.
Australia’s tour of Bangladesh was earlier scheduled for just a three-match series for additional nine days. Cricket Australia and Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) are yet to confirm the dates of the additional matches.
The rescheduled series will complete in “eight or nine days”, according to Bangladesh Cricket Board cricket operations chairman Akram Khan.
The tour will also help the Australian team acclimate with the sub-continent conditions ahead of the T20 World Cup.
The Australian team has never won the T20 World Cup since its advent (in 2007). They did make it into the finals of the 2010 season, unfortunately, they lost to England by 7 wickets.
Besides, the Australian side last played a T20 game in Bangladesh in 2014 that saw them end the campaign with just four wins. Moreover, they last toured Bangladesh for a bilateral series in 2017 for a two-match Test series.
Bangladesh’s tour will be a huge boost for Aaron Finch and co. after the cancellation of the South Africa tour due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Australia’s 23-member preliminary squad:
Aaron Finch (c), Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendorff, Alex Carey, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Moises Henriques, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Riley Meredith, Josh Philippe, Jhye Richardson, Kane Richardson, Tanveer Sangh, D’Arcy Short, Steven Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, Mitchell Swepson, Andrew Tye, Matthew Wade, David Warner, Adam Zampa.
