Cricket Australia (CA) announced an 18-player T20I squad on Wednesday for Australia’s upcoming tour of New Zealand starting next month. The tour comprises five Twenty20 International that will be played between February and March.
Aaron Finch has been named as the captain of the squad. He will be backed by veteran player Matthew Wade as the vice-captain of the team. Wade has been dropped out of the 19-player squad that will tour South Africa for a three-match Test series during the same period Australia will tour New Zealand.
Uncapped player, leg-spinner Tanveer Sangha has received his maiden call-up in the squad. Star spinners Adam Zampa and Ashton Agar will bolster the team’s bowling attacks.
“In a World Cup year, it’s exciting to select a squad that combines some of the biggest names in international T20 cricket with the best emerging players in the country,” Cricket Australia chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said.
“On the international stage he’s very well credentialled and one of the best T20 players in the world,” Hohns said about Finch being chosen as the captain for the T20 squad.
