Babar Azam has played one gem of an innings to help Karachi Kings beat Peshawar Zalmi by six wickets on Wednesday. Karachi Kings have now totalled their victory tally to three wins in five matches and have now climbed up to the top of the points table. In pursuit of a 189-run total, Karachi Kings didn’t start the innings the way they would have liked. Sharjeel Khan couldn’t replicate a similar inning he played in the last game. He got out on the very first ball he faced. Joe Clarke and Colin Ingram soon followed inside the first seven overs.
Babar Azam and Mohammad Nabi then steadied the ship and stitched a beautiful match-winning partnership for the fourth wicket. The duo took the game away from the opposition as they added 118 runs in the next 57 balls. Nabi hit four sixes and 8 four en-route to his 67-run knock off 35 balls. Babar Azam, on the other hand, anchored the chase and stayed unbeaten till the end. Babar played an unbeaten knock of 77 runs off just 47 balls, including 8 fours and 4 sixes. Karachi Kings, in the end, chased the total comfortably in 19.3 overs.
Earlier, Peshawar Zalmi notched 188 runs in the first innings. Shoaib Malik-led unit looked clueless in the first half of the innings. The top 4 comprising Kamran Akmal, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, Shoaib Malik and Haider Ali went back to the pavilion inside the first 10 overs. The Zalmis were 69 for 4 after 10 overs.
The latter half, though, saw a turnaround in their fortunes as Ravi Bopara and Rutherford stitched a valuable 80-run partnership for the fifth wicket. The duo added 80 runs in the next 50 balls and took the team to a formidable total. Bopara scored 58 off 40 balls, while the West Indian amassed 46 runs off 32 balls. Peshawar Zamli ended in 188 after 20 overs.
