BAN vs NZ: Bangladesh Cricket Team made history on Wednesday after winning their first-ever Test match against New Zealand in their backyard. The Tigers looked solid right from the start of the match. Shoriful Islam and Mehidy Hasan picked three wickets each to bundle New Zealand out for 328 runs in the first innings.
Bangladesh, in reply, put on a solid display of batting in the second innings. A combined effort from the team helped them post a massive 458-run total in the second innings. M Hasan Roy and Shanto laid the foundation with a beautiful partnership at the top of the order. Hasan Roy scored 78 off 228, while Shanto amassed 64 off 109.
Skipper, Mominul then capitalized on the start with a stellar knock of 88 off 244 runs, including 12 fours. Man in form, Liton Das also played a stellar knock of 86 runs off 177 balls to help the team take a 130-run lead. Bangladesh was right on the money in the third innings. Ebadot Hossain ran through New Zealand’s middle-order as he picked four out of top-five wickets. He eventually finished with six wickets for just 46 runs in 21 overs.
Taskin Ahmed too bowled well as he picked 3 for 36 in 14 overs. Thanks to the valuable contributions of these two bowlers, Bangladesh bundled out New Zealand for just 169 runs in the third innings of the Test. With just 42 runs needed to win the match, Bangladesh chased down the score with 8 wickets in hand. Skipper M Haque and M Rahim stayed unbeaten on 13 and 5, respectively.
The second and final BAN vs NZ Test of the series is scheduled to be played from 9th January to 13th January 2022 at Hagley Oval.
