BAN vs PAK: Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim starred for Bangladesh at Stumps on Day 1 of the first Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh. The duo shared an unbeaten 204-run partnership after Bangladesh suffered an early collapse in the first session of play. After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh got off to the worst possible start. Both the openers went back to the hut inside the first eight overs.
Shaheen Shah Afridi took the first wicket in the form of Saif Hassan (14 off 12) with a peach of the delivery. Hassan Ali then trapped Shadnam Islam leg-before to leave Bangladesh in trouble at 33 for 2. Faheem Ashraf and Sajid Khan later picked a wicket each to each to take full control of the game. Bangladesh had lost four wickets for just 49 runs inside the first 17 overs.
However, what followed was two outstanding unbeaten knocks from Mushfiqur Rahim and Liton Das. After the early collapse, the duo rebuilt the innings wonderfully and ensured Bangladesh don’t lose a wicket for the rest of the day. Mushfiqur Rahim scored 82 runs off 190 deliveries, including 10 fours. And, Liton Das, on the other hand, went on to score a century and is currently unbeaten on 113 off 225 deliveries.
“We had a good first session by taking early wickets. We should appreciate the way Liton Das and Mushfiqur Rahim batted. They played really well,” Hasan said.
“It’s a slow pitch and we need to bowl in good areas to get break-through. Bangladesh is in a good position at the moment,” he added.
Bangladesh would be hoping that the duo doesn’t lose their wickets in the first session on Day 2 and help the team post a competitive first innings score. The new ball is just 5 overs old and one could expect both swing and seam in the morning tomorrow. The Pakistan bowlers would look to make full use of that.
