BAN vs WI: Bangladesh has been hampered ahead of the upcoming white-ball series against the West Indies by the loss of fast bowler Mohammad Saifuddin. He is reportedly suffering from a back injury.
Saifuddin’s medical board had previously warned the selection committee of his ineligibility for the tour.
Ten days ago, Saifuddin experienced back trouble; as a result, he was given a painkilling injection that prevented him from bowling for seven days.
He was supposed to begin his bowling on June 21, but he didn’t and complained of pain. It was ultimately decided, that he won’t be traveling with the team.
“Yes, he (Saifuddin) is ruled out for the series,” a BCB official confirmed.
Later in a release, BCB confirmed the development. The board’s Chief Sports Physician Dr. Debashis Chowdhury said: “Although Shaifuddin is training, we feel that at the moment he has not reached the bowling fitness level required to cope with the intensity of international cricket. He will miss the West Indies series as he continues his rehab and works on his fitness.”
Saifuddin hasn’t played for his country in international cricket, after suffering a back injury and withdrawing from the ICC World T20 last year.
He entered the Dhaka Premier League, the nation’s customary 50-over event headquartered in Dhaka clubs, and earned a spot by playing well there, taking 22 wickets and scoring 220 runs.
Tomorrow (June 24), six players of Bangladesh’s T20 and ODI teams are anticipated to depart Dhaka for the white-ball series, which consists of three ODIs and three T20Is.
Dominica will host the first two Twenty20 Internationals on July 2 and 3, while Guyana will host the third on July 7. On July 10, 13, and 16, the three ODIs are also slated to take place in Guyana.
