Bangladesh vs New Zealand, 2nd T20I Match Preview: Bangladesh registered their first win against New Zealand in T20 cricket after winning the first T20 international of the five-match series on Wednesday. A second-string New Zealand lacked the experience to play in sub-continent conditions.
They looked clueless against spin and uneven bounce and were bowled out for just 60 runs in the first innings. Two new openers in Tom Blundell and Rachin Ravindra went back to the pavilion for 2 and 0 respectively. The other two batsmen in the top four didn’t stand at the crease for too long either as New Zealand were reeling at 9 for 4 inside the first 4 overs.
Henry Nicholls and Tom Latham then stitched a crucial partnership to lead New Zealand recovery. The duo added 34 runs for the fifth wicket before Tom Latham, unfortunately, got out in the eleven the over. Saifuddin sent both Latham (18 off 25) and Nicholls (18 off 24) back to the pavilion in his two consecutive deliveries to leave New Zealand in complete disarray.
Mustafizur then ran through New Zealand’s tail in no time as the Blackcaps were bowled out for a paltry 60. Mustazfizur ended up picking three wickets, while Saifuddin, Shakib picked 2 wickets apiece.
New Zealand spinners made a great start in the second innings after dismissing both Bangladesh openers inside 3 overs
Shakib Al Hasan and Mushfiqur Rahim, however, held firm and didn’t allow the blackcaps to make a comeback in the game. Shakib got out after making 25 off 33 balls but had done the damage by then. Rahim (16 off 26) and Mahmudullah (14 off 22) eventually guided the team home with 5 overs remaining.
Bangladesh has taken a 1-0 lead in the series and would be looking to consolidate the lead from here on. The second T20 international will be played on 3rd September 2021.
