Adelaide Strikers beat Brisbane Heat by 71 runs on Wednesday to register their third win of BBL 2021-22 and stay alive in the competition. Peter Siddle and Co. batted first and managed to score 161 runs in the first innings. There were important contributions from all six batsmen who played during the innings.
Short scored 27 off 19, while Henry Hunt and Weatherald amassed 25 (26) and 35 (31) respectively. Wells also played a good-looking unbeaten 23-run knock off 24 balls, while Thomas Kelly stayed unbeaten on 24 off 16 balls. A combined batting effort from the team helped them post a competitive score on the board. For Brisbane Heat, Will Prestwidge picked 2 for 34 in 4 overs, while M Kuhnemann claimed 1 for 27.
In pursuit of the total, Brisbane Heat lost both the openers inside the powerplay. The two left-handed batsmen Ben Duckett and Lachlan Pfeffer then joined hands and added 45 runs for the third wicket. The duo also scored 11 runs off Rashid Khan’s first over. However, the turning point came in Rashid Khan’s second over. Pfeffer ran himself out and Rashid Khan followed that up with two consecutive wickets.
In just the space of three balls, Brisbane Heat slipped from 62 for 2 to 62 for 5. Ben Duckett though was still in the middle, with Brisbane Heat needing 95 runs in the final 10 overs. On just the second ball of the eleventh over, Short got the wicket of Duckett to leave Brisbane Heat in all sorts of trouble.
Rashid Khan ran through Brisbane Heat’s batting unit thereafter as they fell like a pack of cards. Rashid Khan ended up picking 6 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs and helped his team bundle out Brisbane Heat for just 90 runs. Adelaide Strikers thus won the game by 71 runs.
