Melbourne Renegades registered a comfortable 5-wicket win over Melbourne Stars to jump to number six on the BBL 2021-22 points table. Skipper Maddinson gave the Renegades a brilliant start with the ball as he accounted for the wickets for the top-three batters inside the first 10 overs.
He didn’t allow any one of them to play a big knock at the top. R Topley took the important wickets of Glenn Maxwell (7 off 9) and Cartwright (41 off 29), while Richardson picked the wickets of Tom O Connell, Qais Ahmed, and Brody Couch to restrict the Stars to as low a total as possible. Cartwright played a vital knock but he didn’t receive any support from the other end. Melbourne Stars, as a result, could only manage to score 126 runs in the first innings.
Melbourne Renegades, in pursuit of the total, lost Sam Harper (7 off 7) early on in the innings. However, senior members i.e., Shaun Marsh and Aaron Finch made a great recovery as the duo added 63 runs for the second wicket. They paced the innings wonderfully. The duo started off with caution before scoring boundaries at regular intervals.
Melbourne Stars picked the second wicket in the form of Shaun Marsh (21 off 17) in the 10th over, however, Aaron Finch kept scoring boundaries with ease. Besides scoring those boundaries, Finch ran between the wickets wonderfully, making sure he scored as many singles and doubles as possible.
Finch scored 50 off 40 balls, before getting out in the 12th over of the innings. The Renegades, however, had already scored 90 runs by then. Mohammed Nabi got out in the next over but M Harvey (23 off 25) and James Seymour (17 off 14) ensured they chase down the score with 2 overs left in the match.
