The 54th match of the BBL 2021-22 will have Hobart Hurricanes take on Melbourne Renegades, scheduled to be held at Docklands Stadium in Melbourne on Tuesday.
Hobart Hurricanes are still very much in contention of reaching the knockouts. They are currently sitting at number five on the points table, having managed to win 6 matches out of 12. They have two games left to play in the league stage and would be keen to win both of them.
Hobart Hurricanes played their last game against Sydney Thunders and managed to beat them by 9 runs. Riding on impressive knocks from Caleb Jewell (51 off 32) and Mathew Wade (83 off 54), Hobart Hurricanes managed to score 177 runs in the first innings.
The Hurricanes restricted Sydney Thunders to 168 runs in the second innings. It was a combined bowling effort from the team which helped them win the game. The Hurricanes kept taking wickets at regular intervals and didn’t allow the opposition to stitch partnerships.
Riley Meredith and Jordan Thompson picked three wickets each, while Sandeep Lamichhane picked 2 wickets.
Facing them are Melbourne Renedages, who are languishing at the bottom of the points table. The Renegades have only managed to win 3 games out of 12 and have two left in the competition. They played their last game against Melbourne Stars.
A dismal batting performance from the Renegades didn’t help their cause as they could only manage to score 122 runs in the first innings. Sam Harper (45 off 44) and Fraser McGurk made substantial contributions with the bat. However, other than that, batsmen got out on single-digit scores.
Melbourne Stars, in reply, chased down the score in 14.3 overs with six wickets in hand. Melbourne Renegades would be hoping to end their campaign with two wins in their last two matches.
