Melbourne Renegades will take on Brisbane Heat in the 37th match of the BBL 2021-22 on Thursday at Simons Stadium in Geelong. Melbourne Renegades are currently languishing at second from the bottom of the points table, having managed only 2 wins in 8 matches. However, they would be coming into the game with a lot of confidence after having won their last game against Melbourne Stars by 5 wickets.
The Renegades restricted the Stars to 126 runs in the first innings. R Topley, Maddinson and Kane Richardson all picked three wickets each, denying the opposition to stitch partnerships. Melbourne Renegades, in reply, lost their first wicket for 10 runs.
However, what followed was a 63-run partnership for the second wicket between Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh. Aaron Finch went on to score a half-century in 40 deliveries. Shaun Marsh, on the other hand, scored 21 off 17 balls. Finch got out in the 12th over of the innings, however, the team had already reached the 90-run mark by then.
Later, M Harvey (23 off 25) and James Seymour (17 off 14) guided the team home in 18 overs.
Facing them are Brisbane Heat are sitting at fifth on the table with 3 wins in 8 matches. They too are coming off a win against Hobart Hurricanes by 14 runs. Valuable contributions from Heazlett, Wildermuth, and Bazley helped the team post the 150-run total in the first innings.
The bowlers bowled at great lengths and showed great discipline in the second innings. Xavier Bartlett sent both the openers back to the hut in his very first over. Harry Brook got out in the 8th over to leave the team in trouble at 38 for 3, which soon became 68 for 5 inside 14 overs. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and the opposition didn’t get any momentum whatsoever. Thomas Rogers later played a valuable cameo of 33 off 20 balls but, the Hurricanes fell 14 runs short in the end.
Xavier Bartlett picked 4 wickets for 30 in 4 overs with the ball, while Mujeeb Ur Rahman picked 3 wickets for 20 in 4 overs.
