The 33rd match of the BBL 2021-22 will have Melbourne Stars take on Melbourne Renegades at Melbourne Cricket Stadium on Monday. Both teams have played to their potential and currently sitting at the bottom half of the points table. The Stars suffered a heavy defeat against Perth Scorchers in their last game on Sunday. Kurtis Patterson and Colin Munro played vital knocks with the bat to take the team to a formidable score of 180 runs in the first innings.
The duo stitched a 68-run partnership for the second wicket to help the team reach 95 in 8 overs. However, Melbourne Stars picked wickets regularly thereafter and ensured that the Scorchers didn’t score over 200. For Stars, Q Ahmed and Haris Rauf picked two wickets each.
Joe Clarke kept the team in the chase with a vital knock of 52 runs off 32 balls. However, the other batsmen in the batting line-up failed to step up to the boots. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals and Stars failed to stitch partnerships. The bottom six players managed to score just 8 runs as Melbourne Stars got bundled out for just 130 runs, thereby losing the game 50 runs. The fans would be hoping that they exhibit better performance in the next game.
Facing them are Melbourne Renegades, who are languishing at the bottom of the table. In 7 matches played this season, they have managed to win only a single game. Their last match got abandoned due to rain. Prior to that, they played against Hobart Hurricanes. The latter scored a massive score of 206 runs in the first innings.
Ben McDermott tore apart the Renegades’ bowling attack. Kane Richardson went for as many as 63 runs in his four overs with the ball. R Topley was the pick of the bowlers as he picked 2 wickets for 17 runs in 4 overs. In pursuit of the total, Melbourne Renegades were bundled out for just 121 runs. Sam Harper scored a brilliant knock of 57 off 35 balls but there was no support from the other end whatsoever.
