The Perth Scorchers have booked a place for the finals of the BBL 2021-22 after beating Sydney Sixers in the Qualifier match by 48 runs on Saturday.
Perth Scorchers, batting first, notched a formidable score of 189 runs in the first innings. Josh Inglis and Kurtis Patterson gave the team an absolutely brilliant start. The duo added 120 runs for the opening wicket.
Josh Inglis top-scored for the team, scoring 79 runs off 49 balls, while Kurtis Patterson also made a valuable contribution of 64 runs in 41 deliveries.
Mitchell Marsh, later, made a handy 28-run cameo off 21 deliveries to guide the team to a competitive score on the board. For the Sydney Sixers, Hayden Kerr picked 2 wickets but conceded 37 runs in 4 overs. All the bowlers who bowled more than 2 overs went for over 9 runs per over.
In pursuit of the total, Sydney Sixers got off to the worst possible start. Both Josh Phillipe (5 off 8) and Justin Avendano (0 off 3) got out without making a significant impact with the bat.
Moises Henriques also got out after scoring just 17 runs, while Jordan Silk got out on 1 off 5 deliveries. Barring Henriques, all the batsmen in the top seven got out on single-digit scores.
After 12 overs, Syndey Sixers managed only 55 runs for seven wickets. Ben Dwarshuis, later played a 66-run knock off 29 balls but brought some hope back but only to delay the inevitable.
In the end, Sydney Sixers only managed to score 141 runs in the second innings, thereby falling 48 runs short of the target. With that win, Perth Scorchers are through to the finals. Sydney Sixers, on the other hand, will find themselves in the Challenger Match on Wednesday.
