Sydney Thunder takes on Adelaide Strikers in the Knockout match of the BBL 2021-22 on Sunday. Sydney Thunders were brilliant in the league stage as they finished in the third position with 9 wins in 14 matches.
They are coming into the game on the back of a stunning 1-run win over Melbourne Renegades. Batting first, Sydney Thunders managed to score 170 runs in the first innings. Alex Hales (44 off 22) and Khawaja (77 off 51) gave them a rollicking start.
The duo added 80 runs for the opening wicket. Hales got out in the 7th over, however, his partner kept going strong. Unfortunately, the next four batsmen managed to score only 4 runs combined as Khawaja found little support from the other end.
Sydney Thunders, as a result of that, kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Having said that, they had enough total on the board to win the game. Gurinder Sandhu and T Sangha managed to run through Melbourne’s top-order.
But a brilliant 82-run knock from Aaron Finch kept the game in the balance. But, he too found little support from the other hand. Melbourne Renegades, in the end, fell just one run short of the target.
Gurinder Sandhu starred with the ball as he picked 3 wickets for 33 runs in 4 overs. Facing them are Adelaide Strikers, who are coming off a morale-boosting 22-run win over Hobart Hurricanes in the Eliminator match.
Adelaide Strikers managed to post 188 runs on the board while batting first. Openers, Alex Carey (67 off 45) and Short (89 off 48) set the tone for the total.
However, the other batsmen in the batting unit fell like a pack of cards. The Strikers could have scored over 200 runs but there was no need to as they bundled Hobart Hurricanes for 166 runs.
Peter Siddle was the pick of the bowlers for them as he picked 4 for 32 in 3.4 overs, while Harry Conway and Thornton picked 2 wickets each.
