The 55th match of the BBL 2021-22 will have Sydney Thunder take on Melbourne Renegades at Melbourne Cricket Ground on Wednesday. Sydney Thunders are sitting at third on the points table with 8 wins in 13 matches. Thunders have a must-win game as a win can help them make a top-two finish.
Sydney Thunders lost their last game against Sydney Sixers by 60 runs. Sydney Sixers posted a mammoth 197-run total while batting first. Barring M Hasnain, all the bowlers went for more than 9 runs an over. The bowling unit would look to exhibit better performance in the next game.
In reply, Thunders could only manage to score 137 runs. None of the batsmen could make a significant impact with the bat. Alex Hales (23 off 19) and Jason Sangha (22 off 22) failed to convert the start into big scores. Chris Green later scored a half-century but only to delay the inevitable.
Facing them are Melbourne Renedages, who will be playing their last match of the tournament. They are positioned at the bottom of the points table with only 3 wins in 13 matches. The Renegades would be looking to sign off with a win.
The Renegades played their last game against Hobart Hurricanes. Batting first, Hobart Hurricanes managed to score 182 runs in the first innings. For the Renegades, Lalor and Boyce both picked two wickets each. However, none of the other bowlers made a significant impact with the ball.
In pursuit of the total, James Seymour and Shaun Marsh added 37 runs in just 3.1 overs before the former got out on the very next ball for a well-made 13-ball 24. Aaron Finch then joined hands with Shaun Marsh and exhibited a wonderful display of power-hitting.
The duo played shots all around the ground and it looked like Melbourne Renegades would chase the target comfortably. However, once Shaun Marsh got out after scoring 75 off 52 balls, runs dried up and wickets then fell quickly. Aaron Finch got out after scoring 51 off 38 balls and the Renegades, in the end, fell 6 runs short of the target.
