BBL: Chris Lynn’s 11-year stint with the Brisbane Heat has come to an end, according to the team on May 11. Heat have declared that they will not offer the 32-year-old a new contract following their disappointing performance in BBL 11, which saw them finish seventh.
Lynn had resigned as captain of the team well ahead of the BBL’s 2021-22 season, with Jimmy Peirson taking over. Lynn has served as the franchise’s face over the years, leading the team 50 times. He has appeared in 102 games for them and is the leading run-scorer in the BBL with over 3000 runs. However, he only achieved 215 runs in 12 games last season, and with Heat also having a bad season, the decision to separate was taken.
“It’s not a decision that has come easily to the Heat by any means,” CEO Terry Svenson said.
“Chris Lynn and his feats have made an indelible impression on the club, and his efforts over more than a decade can rightly be said to have had an enormously positive effect on cricket. The Heat wishes him nothing but the best for the future as he transitions into another phase of his career and thank him wholeheartedly for his commitment to the game in Queensland.”
Lynn also owns the record for the most sixes i.e 180. Given his striking ability, the 32-year-old is anticipated to have no trouble finding a new club.
“Chris Lynn will be missed by thousands, however, the decision we have made as a club is about building on the legacy that he leaves as a foundation player, captain, and ambassador for the Heat,” Queensland Cricket’s Recruitment and Retention Committee Chair, Ian Healy said.
“We thank Heat members, fans, corporate partners, and sponsors for their wholehearted support of ‘Lynny’ and for recognizing his great performances over the past 11 seasons. He holds a very special place in our history.” Healed added.
