Peter Hatzoglou, who emerged as the breakout star in the last year’s Big Bash League (BBL), will be joining Perth Scorchers on a two-year deal. In a bid to strengthen the spin department, the club has included the young spinner, who joins Ashton Agar for the upcoming edition. Peter’s signing would mean the Fawad Ahmed is no more the part of Scorchers this year.
Coach, Adam Voges has high hopes for the 22-year old spinner and expects that he will form a great pair with Ashton Agar.
“He gives us the flexibility to bowl spin at different times throughout the innings and will combine with Ash Agar to make a strong spin duo,” Scorchers coach Voges said in a statement.
“Peter is a long-term option for us which means sadly we say goodbye to Fawad (Ahmed) who’s been a huge asset to our team over the past two seasons.
“On behalf of the team and the club, we want to thank Fawad for his time at the Scorchers and wish him all the best in the future.”
Peter Hatzoglou’s move will be a big blow for Renegades this season. Peter Hatzoglou joined the club at the last minute during the last season when Cameron Boyce was struck down with illness on the eve of the BBL|10 season. The rookie spinner turned out to be a delightful entry in the club as he clinched two wickets in his debut game, which interestingly was against Perth Scorchers. He ended the previous season as the Renegades’ leading wicket-taker with 17 scalps at an economy of 8.27 from 13 matches.
“Peter was very popular with our fans last season and his performances generated interest from across the competition. We wish him well in Perth and for the future,” a Renegades spokesperson said.
The BBL 2021-22 tournament will run from 5th December 2021 to 28th January 2022.
