India’s IPL 2022 stars may be ready to compete and go all out in the IPL 2022, but the BCCI wants them to show health. The Indian board has asked the KL Rahul-led squad to get a health check at the NCA by June 5. It is in preparation for the five-match T20 series against South Africa.
“All players for South Africa series will have to assemble for a fitness camp at NCA. It’s important as many of them are carrying niggles. Harshal still has stitches and we want to make sure everything is fine,” a senior BCCI official informed.
The 18-member India squad will now assemble at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru on or by June 5 after their IPL commitments. They will have to pass an obligatory fitness test, which will be overseen by NCA head VVS Laxman.
They will fly from Bengaluru to Delhi on June 7 for the first T20I on June 9 The red-ball team will leave for England barring KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant. They will join the squad in England after the SA series.
Rahul Dravid will travel to South Africa with the team. It’s still unclear whether he’ll be available for the entire five-match series against South Africa. Rahul Dravid preferred to remain available for the full South African series before joining the team in England on June 21 for the red-ball warm-up match.
“Rahul wants to be available for the South Africa series. The idea was that he would be travelling with the England squad with Laxman taking charge of the South Africa series. But Rahul wants to oversee everything before flying out to England. We still have a few days and the itinerary should be clear in the next few days,” the BCCI official said.
