The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has published a media rights tender for the Indian Premier League season between 2023 and 2027, with an e-auction auction to commence on June 12. The Indian Cricket Board awarded a seasonal media rights tender at the IPL 2023-2027 on Tuesday, in the hope that there will be an estimated Rs 50,000 crore. For the first time in IPL history, BCCI will host an e-auction for new consumers, starting on June 12.
According to board secretary Jay Shah, BCCI executives are hoping to push the Indian T20 league up and down as there are two new teams, more games, more involvement, and more stadiums. Shah says he has no doubt that this approach will not only increase revenue but also increase it, which will greatly benefit Indian cricket.
Star India has the current five-year rights (TV and digital) for the IPL from 2018 to 2022, but those in decision-making positions say the estimate, now at Rs 16,347.50 crore (USD 2.55 billion), is much lower. In December 2021, it was analyzed that the estimate for the next five-year IPL media and digital rights will be between Rs. 36,000 million.
However, within the next three months, it was announced by the BCCI that the actual value could be more than Rs 14,000 crore more than previously predicted numbers. Thus, a nearly threefold increase in media rights ratings could be seen as early as June 12 and one of the main reasons for that would be the addition of Gujarat Titans and Lucknow SuperGiants teams which led to the IPL growing from 60 to 60. 74, which led to a bidding war between colleagues, including Zee-Sony and Reliance Viacom 18.
Amazon Prime, Meta, and YouTube, among other things, are expected to compete heavily in the digital space, according to BCCI.
All terms and conditions are listed on the ‘Tender Invitation’ (ITT) list, which will be available upon receipt of a non-refundable deposit of Rs 25 lakh excluding GST, according to a statement issued by the BCCI.
