England all-rounder Ben Stokes revealed that he went through extreme pain in his finger while captaining the side in the recently concluded three-match ODI series against Pakistan.
Ben Stokes, earlier, wasn’t part of the England squad which was due to play against Pakistan. However, with three players of the core team tested positive, Ben Stokes was named as the captain of the second-string England side.
For the unversed, Ben Stokes injured his finger while playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL 2021. Following after sustaining the injury he was ruled out of the tournament and underwent surgery.
“It was a totally unexpected set of games for me and the truth is I would never have played under normal circumstances due to how much pain I was in with my left index finger. The surgery was a success after I had broken it at the IPL, but it was still so painful,” Stokes wrote in his Daily Mirror column, as reported by ESPNcricinfo.
“Sometimes though you just have to grin and bear it, and captaining England is one of those reasons. The finger has healed structurally, but the pain was just ridiculous for where it should be so that is why I have now had an injection to ease it for the rest of the summer,” he added.
Under Ben Stokes’ leadership, England went onto win all three games and whitewash Pakistan 3-0. Pakistan, however, has made a great comeback after winning the first of the three-match T20 series on Friday. It will be interesting to see how the remaining two T20 games pan out.
