In a major shocker to the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Delhi Capitals (DC), DC skipper and one of the most reliable batsmen of the team Shreyas Iyer is highly likely to miss the entirety of the tournament or at least a major part of it.
Iyer suffered a shoulder dislocation during the first ODI of the ongoing three-match ODI series against England in Pune on Tuesday that forced himself to leave the field midway. He underwent scans, which revealed a labrum tear in his left shoulder.
Iyer would be undergoing surgery within a couple of days, which is expected to keep him out of action for at least three months. Consequently, the player has been dropped out of the squad for the remaining two matches of the series.
Given the duration of the batsman’s recovery, he is would most likely not feature in the upcoming season of IPL, which is just a fortnight away. The fourteenth edition of the tournament is slated to roll out on April 9, with DC scheduled to play its first match on April 10.
Since Iyer would be unavailable to take charge of the captaincy of the team, vice-captain Rishabh Pant would lead the team in his absence. It remains to be seen whether the DC skipper would be able to play in any of the matches of the tournament or not.
