Black Caps bowling coach, Shane Jurgensen will stay with the New Zealand team for the entire tour of India later this year. New Zealand is scheduled to travel to India for a full series, starting November. Jergensen was earlier told to come back home after the T20Is. However, he will now stay on with the team for the entire tour.
“The rearrangement of Jurgensen’s winter touring commitments came about after his scheduled departure on Friday was delayed as a result of visa complications caused by the recent nationwide lockdown,” New Zealand Cricket (NZC) said in a statement on Monday.
“The silver lining is that Jurgensen is now able to stay on for the two-Test tour of India in late November/early December, rather than returning home as previously planned — in accordance with NZC’s player and staff welfare protocols,” the statement further read.
Also, Jurgensen’s visit to Pakistan for the upcoming five-match T20 series has been cancelled. He will directly travel to UAE to join the team for the T20 World Cup, alongside regular coaches namely Gary Stead and Luke Ronchi. Current New Zealand coaches Glenn Pocknall (head), Graeme Aldridge (bowling) and Tilan Samaraweera (batting) will continue to lead the touring team in Pakistan.
New Zealand is slated to tour India in November after the completion of the T20 World Cup. New Zealand recently participated in the five-match T20 series against Bangladesh. In the absence of senior players, a second-string team played against the hosts and went on to lose the series by a 2-3 margin. This was New Zealand’s first-ever T20 series defeat against Bangladesh.
