Three Big Bash League (BBL) matches, which were set to be hosted in Sydney, have now been moved to Canberra due to the progressing line limitations. The final decision on whether to migrate the remaining matches is still awaited. Considering the plausible reasoning, it’s highly likely that the remaining matches may be moved as well.

The three games being moved are:

January 13: Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers (initially planned to be played at Sydney Showground Stadium)

January 16: Sydney Sixers v Perth Scorchers (initially planned to be played at Sydney Cricket Ground)

January 18: Sydney Thunder v Hobart Hurricanes (initially planned to be played at Sydney Showground Stadium)

Manuka Oval has just arranged six matches in this current season’s competition with the Thunder, for whom the ground is more homelike, having played in five matches there.

“The choice to move these three matches from Sydney to Canberra has been taken to guarantee the continuation of the BBL season regardless of the continuous general wellbeing circumstance and related state line terminations,” Alistair Dobson, the top of the Big Bash, said.

“As a feature of our progressing observing of the circumstance in Sydney, we will consider whether we need to settle on any choices on the leftover matches in Sydney at the appointed time,” Dobson added.

There is conceivably another entanglement for the BBL following the three-day lockdown declared in Brisbane on Friday, following an instance of network transmission of the UK strain of COVID-19. Coordinates are occurring on the Gold Coast, which is outside of the territory affected by the lockdown, yet, it might have a further impact on the boundaries with different states.
