The Dhaka franchise has roped in Tamim Iqbal and Mushrafe Mortaza for the upcoming edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL). Tamim and Mashrafe were two of Dhaka’s first three picks in the BPL draft while Mahmudullah was the team’s only direct signing.
If reports are to be believed, there was an overnight change in the ownership for the Dhaka franchise after the initial bidders- Rupa Fabrics Limited and Marn Steel Limited proved out to be ineligible. Both the companies reportedly failed to pay the BDT five crore pre-tournament fees within the stipulated time.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board, thus, has kept the ownership of the Dhaka franchise. The chief selector, Habibul Bashar made the bids for players during the draft.
Veteran West Indies batsman, Chris Gayle was roped in by Fortune Barishal. The franchise earlier signed the likes of Shakib Al Hasan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Danushka Gunathilaka. Besides, they have also included the likes of Obed McCoy, Alzarri Joseph, and Niroshan Dickwella.
Khulna Tigers, on the other hand, roped in the likes of Mushfiqur Rahim, Sikandar Raza, and Soumya Sarkar to name a few. Cumilla Victorians, who last played during 2018-19, have made notable inclusions such as Mustafizur Rahman, Faf du Plessis, Sunil Narine, and Moeen Ali, Liton Das and Oshane Thomas etc. Sylhet Sunrisers have picked up Kesrick Williams and Ravi Bopara among their foreign picks in the BPL draft, with Taskin Ahmed, Mizanur Rahman and Sohag Gazi being their local players.
