Royal Challengers Bangalore won their first match of the season as they defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 10 runs on Monday. Virat Kohli and his men also registered their second consecutive victory against the SRH in the IPL.
Leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal turned the tables by removing the well-settled Bairstow (61 runs) and the all-rounder, Vijay Shankar, on quick succession. Before that, the SRH lost the skipper David Warner in a bizarre manner and also became the first blot in SRH’s chase.
Navdeep Saini added cherry on the top with his impeccable spell against the orange army and finished with two wickets in four overs. Saini cleaned the stumps of Rashid Khan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar and brought back more life to the game in RCB’s favour.
The Sunrisers were cruising at 142/8 before Shivam Dube and Dale Steyn gave the final treatment by taking the final two wickets.
Earlier, Sunrisers had won the toss and chose to bowl first as Aaron Finch and Devdutt Padikkal opened the inning for the RCB.
Both Padikkal and Finch added a partnership of 90 runs for the first wicket before Abhishek Sharma came and trapped Finch for LBW.
Padikkal looked flamboyant with a variety of shots under his belt. He blasted 56 runs off 42 balls including eight boundaries. He impressed on his debut and might also be the solution to RCB’s opening jinx in the remaining season.
Skipper Virat Kohli failed to convert his inning after settling down an gave away his wicket on 13 runs off 14 balls. However, the experienced De Villiers sailed the RCB’s ship and score 51 runs off 30 balls and also helped his side reach 163/5 after 20 overs.
Yuzvendra Chahal became the man of the match for his miserly and game-changing spell of 3/18 in four overs.
RCB will now be on high spirits after this win and before they face Kings XI Punjab on September 24 at the Dubai International Stadium. While Sunrisers will face Kolkata Knight Riders in the next game at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 26.
