Chepauk Super Gillies have reached the second spot on the points table after registering their fourth win on Tuesday. The Gillies registered a 7-wicket win over Salem Spartans.
They restricted Salem Spartans to 113 runs in the first innings. Gopinath played a superlative knock of 42 runs in 45 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six.
However, the likes of Jafar Jamal (6), Akshay Srinivasan (0) and Ferrario (0) got out cheaply and they lost 4 wickets for just 55 runs on the board.
Ravi Karthikeyan (12 off 16) looked to produce a decent knock but couldn’t convert the start into a big score. However, S Abishiek’s unbeaten 23-run knock in 27 balls meant Spartans reached 113 in 20 overs.
For Chepauk Super Gillies, M Siddharth claimed 3 for 13 runs in 4 overs. Besides, the likes of Sonu Yadav, R Alexander, and Arun Kumar claimed one wicket each.
Chepauk Super Gillies chased down the score in 14.5 overs. Kaushik Gandhi and N Jagadeesan produced an 89-run partnership for the opening wicket.
Gandhi made 46 runs in 45 balls, including 3 fours and 2 sixes. Jagadeesan, on the other hand, amassed 39 runs in 33 balls, including 5 fours.
Later, Sonu Yadav played a 7-ball 26-run unbeaten cameo, helping the team chase down the score in 14.5 overs. Skipper, Murugan Ashwin, once again, returned with impressive figures of 1 for 29 in 4 overs. However, the other bowlers couldn’t make a significant impact with the ball.
Salem Spartans, meanwhile, have slumped to their fifth defeat in the competition. They have 5 losses in 5 matches and are yet to register a win in the competition.
