After the latest round of PCR Tests in England’s Ashes camp, a family member, who is part of England’s team’s touring party has been tested positive. England’s head coach, Chris Silverwood and his family, thus, have been asked to isolate for a period of 10 days. The positive result has led to taking the tally to seven since the RT-PCR testing regime started on 27th December 2021.
The head coach of the England Cricket Team, Chris Silverwood, will thus stay back in Melbourne even as the team heads to Sydney for the fourth Test of the series. The fourth Test of the Ashes 2021-22 is scheduled to be held from 5th January to 9th January 2022 at Sydney Cricket Ground.
Earlier, several members of the support staff and family had tested positive ahead of the second day of the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne. However, despite the positive results, the second Test was allowed to continue and wasn’t cancelled. England lost the third Test by an innings and 14 runs. Australia thus seals the series 3-0 with two Tests remaining.
ICC match referee David Boon has also been tested positive for Covid-19. He thus won’t be officiating in the fourth Test of the series. The former Australian cricketer will undergo isolation for 10 days in Melbourne before resuming his duty in the fifth and final Test of the series.
“It is anticipated that David Boon will return to the role for the fifth Test in Hobart, starting on January 14. He is asymptomatic and fully vaccinated, including having a booster,” Cricket Australia said in a statement. “Boon will remain in Melbourne and in line with Victorian State Government Health guidelines will continue quarantining for 10 days.
“All players from both teams, their families, the England and Australian support staff and the match officials have been having daily PCR tests since Monday, December 27.”
