The e-auction for the IPL TV and Digital Rights media rights got underway on Sunday. As per reports, the combined bid for the media and TV rights has gone up to 43,050 crores. The e-auction offered four specific packages, which will have 74 matches per season. It is for a five-year period between 2023 and 2027.
Having said that, there is a provision for increasing the number of matches to 94 in the last two years.
Four packages are being offered at the E-auction. Package A is exclusive for TV for the Indian subcontinent, while package B is for digital-0nly grouping for the same region.
As per sources, the price per match for TV and digital has skyrocketed to INR 105 crores. Notably, the auction will continue on Monday. As for now, the bid for IPL TV rights has shot up to INR 23, 370 crores, which is roughly INR 57 crores per game.
The bid for IPL digital rights has gone up to Rs 19,680 crore, which means the per game bid cost has gone up to Rs 48 crore.
As far as package C is concerned, it is for selected games in each season while Package D is for all games combined — TV and digital rights — for overseas markets.
Amazon had pulled out of the Indian Premier League media rights auction race, NDTV sources had said on Friday.
In the year 2008, Sony Pictures Network won the IPL media rights for 10 years for a bid of 8200 crores. For the 2017-2022 cycle, Star India edged out Sony Pictures to secure the media rights deal for a whopping amount of 16, 347 crores.
