English county cricket team Gloucestershire on Friday announced signing the former Pakistani pacer Mohammad Amir for a three-match deal. The 30-year-old left-arm pace bowler, who has 119 Test wickets to his record and has played 36 Test matches for Pakistan, will be available for selection against Surrey, Hampshire, and Somerset in the next County Championship fixtures.
Amir hasn’t played a first-class match since a Championship game for Essex after retiring from Test cricket almost two years ago. Amir will take the place of Naseem Shah, who is out with a shoulder injury. On Thursday, he will make his Gloucestershire debut against Surrey.
The 30-year-old has seen many ups and downs in his career. The left-arm pacer was banned by International Cricket Council for five years. Amir’s return to cricket was like a fairy tale he got his name on the Lord’s Honour Board. From the jails to Lord’s Board Amir has seen a lot. The conditions will suit Mohammad Amir. Overseas conditions, a green pitch will help the left arm to extract movement from the pitch.
Amir will bring a lot of experience to the squad. The veteran will help young pacers like Jared Warner, Ajeet Dale, and Josh Shaw.
There is already one Pakistani player in the Gloucestershire squad. Zafar Gohar, left arm Orthodox is currently representing the same.
Mohammad Amir was certified entirely free to play all forms of cricket from 2 September 2015 to the 19th of August 2015. In a T20I encounter against New Zealand on January 15, 2016, he made his comeback to international cricket. Amir scored a hat-trick for Karachi Kings in a Pakistan Super League encounter in February 2016. In 2016, he also played in the first T20I edition of the Asia Cup as well as the 2016 ICC World Twenty20. He later returned to international duty against England, where he was harassed by English fans yelling “No Ball!” at him.
