Former West Indies batter Shivnarine Chanderpaul has been chosen head coach of the Jamaica Tallawahs for the Caribbean Premier League’s (CPL) 2022 season.
Floyd Reifer, who departed the position after being elected head coach of the West Indies Under-19 team, would be replaced by Chanderpaul.
Chanderpaul scored almost 20,000 international runs in 164 Tests, 264 ODIs, and 22 T20Is for West Indies.
“Shivnarine has had an illustrious playing career and is one of the greats of the game. He has served West Indies cricket with distinction, and I know that he will take the Tallawahs to new heights,” said Krishna Persaud, owner of the Jamaica Tallawahs.
“It’s an absolute honour to be appointed as the new Head Coach of the Jamaica Tallawahs and I am really looking forward to working with the players and support staff to bring another championship to Jamaica,” Shiv Chanderpaul said.
Furthermore, Sir Curtly Ambrose has been selected as the bowling coach for the franchise ahead of CPL 2022. The veteran, who has 405 Test wickets and another 225 in ODIs, will act as the Tallawahs bowling coach. During the 2016 T20 World Cup in India, Ambrose served as the bowling coach for the West Indies. West Indies went on to win the tournament after defeating England in a nail-biter in Kolkata. Ambrose has spent the last year training with the Under-19 team’s young bowlers.
“Sir Curtly brings a lot of technical expertise and experience to the Tallawahs and we look forward to having him with the team,” stated Krishna Persaud.
In addition, Andre Coley has been named assistant coach of the Jamaica Tallawahs, one of the Hero Caribbean Premier League’s six professional clubs (CPL). From 2010 to 2013, Coley was a part of the original management team at the High Performance Centre Program in Barbados.
Between 2017 and 2019, Coley was the Head Coach of the Windward Islands Volcanoes first-class franchise, and from 2019 to the present, he is the Head Coach of the Jamaica Scorpions first-class club.
“We are excited and welcome Chanderpaul, Sir Curtly and Coley to the Tallawahs family,” stated Jeff Miller, General Manager of the Tallawahs.
