Despite a dismal loss of his team in the ongoing Ashes 2021-22, which England has already lost giving Australia a 3-0 lead, pacer James Anderson has managed to make big gains in the latest cricket ranking. James Anderson has leap-frogged three places on the ICC Men’s Test bowling rankings.
In the most recent ICC Test Player Rankings update, James Anderson rose three ranks to No. 5 after a remarkable 4/33 performance in England’s first bowling innings.
Anderson struck first, dismissing David Warner on the stroke of stumps as England were bowled out for 185 on Day 1. The next day, he bowled a magnificent opening stint and clinched Steve Smith’s wicket.
On 76, he took the prized scalp of Marcus Harris, who appeared to be on his way to a hundred. Anderson then ended a promising 34-run partnership between Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc by dismissing the Australian captain and preventing the hosts from cruising to victory.
Aussie pacer Mitchell Starc also rose up the cricket ranking following the Boxing Day Ashes Test. Starc ascended to the sixth position on the list of all-rounders. After collecting five wickets at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, he went ahead of England’s Ben Stokes, and also contributed with 24 not out in Australia’s series-clinching triumph, courtesy their 82-run lead.
Among the other achievers in the bowlers, in the Test Bowling Rankings, Scott Boland acquired the No. 74 spot. In the second innings, he had Player of the Match-winning statistics of 6/7, enabling Australia win by an innings and retain the Ashes.
Furthermore, Australian opener Marcus Harris, who had had a rough series up until the Boxing Day Test, where he hit 76, surged a staggering 29 ranks to No. 83 in the current weekly rankings update, breaking into the top 100 batters.
Former West Indies captain Jason Holder is the top-ranked all-rounder in Test cricket, while Australian captain Pat Cummins continues to dominate the rankings for bowlers.
