Cricket Rankings: Following their outstanding performances in the ongoing ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 in New Zealand, Sophie Ecclestone, Amy Satterthwaite, Marizanne Kapp, and Laura Wolvaardt have all risen significantly in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings.
Despite England’s failure to win a single match in the World Cup, Sophie Ecclestone has been a bright spot for her team, bowling with tremendous discipline. Her efforts have propelled her to the top of the bowling rankings, where she has surpassed Australia’s Jess Jonassen. She bowled 3/20 in England’s defeat to the West Indies and then a meagre 1/23 against South Africa.
Marizanne Kapp, who bowled the best figures of her international career in South Africa’s three-wicket triumph against England, is the second significant gainer in the bowling stats. Her 5/45 helped South Africa contain England to 235/9, and she also contributed with the bat throughout the chase, contributing 32 runs. She produced bowling stats of 2/43 in the last match against Pakistan. As a result, she has risen four places to No. 4 in the bowling rankings, while remaining No. 3 in the all-rounder’s rankings.
Amy Satterthwaite of New Zealand and Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa have been the two biggest gainers in the batting rankings. Satterthwaite scored 75 in New Zealand’s 62-run triumph against India, and then 44 in her team’s 141-run loss to Australia. Her achievements have propelled her to No. 3 in the batting rankings, a five-spot jump.
Wolvaardt has also performed admirably throughout the competition. She struck 75 and 77 in South Africa’s triumphs against Pakistan and England, respectively, jumping seven positions to No. 5 on the batting statistics.
Hayley Matthews’ status has risen in the all-rounder’s rankings following consistent performances for the West Indies. She scored 45 and 43 runs in West Indies matches against England and India, respectively, while also recording statistics of 2/40 and 1/65. As a result, she has risen two slots to No. 2 in the charts.
