Cricket South Africa (CSA) on Tuesday confirmed firing the director Omphile Ramela of the CSA interim board in yet another turbulent move. The board also issued a statement of clarification stating that the decision was taken “unanimously” during the meeting.

After the meeting, the board said it has issued notice to Omphile along with the instructions to be present at the board meeting for able to respond on the allegations put on him. This would have allowed Omphile to have the right of being present with his lawyer to answer back the board over the allegation row.

However, he chose not to attend the meeting nor did his attorney appeared as his representative during the meeting by the CSA.

“The board unanimously decided [with one abstention] that Mr. Omphile Ramela, having not appeared to give any reasons why he should not be removed, is removed as a director on the CSA interim board,” the release said.

Yesterday, the interim board had removed Kugandrie Govender from the body over the allegations on the disciplinary grounds. Govender also held the second-highest position on the board and also managed the head of the staff.

After getting removed from the board, Ramela spoke to Cricbuzz “I am still very much a director and member of the CSA interim board. No authorised personnel nor structure has removed me from the board, so there is absolutely nothing to challenge about my directorship”

The final hearing is set to be held on January 28 in 2021, where Ramela will also to answer on the alleged charges on him leading to his removal.
