Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway put on a brilliant 110-run partnership for the first wicket to set the foundation for a huge score.
Gaikwad scored 41 runs in just 33 deliveries, including 4 fours and 1 six. However, it was Devon Conway, who stole the show with sensational hitting. He produced his third consecutive fifty in the tournament. Conway played a match-winning knock of 87 runs in just 49 balls, a knock which was laced with 7 fours and 5 sixes.
Shivam Dube gave him valuable support as he smashed 32 runs in just 19 deliveries. MS Dhoni, later, made a valuable contribution of 21 runs in just 8 balls to stretch the team’s total to 208 runs in the end. In pursuit of the score, Delhi made a horrible start. S Bharat got out in the second over after hitting just two fours with the bat. David Warner was looking good for his 12-ball 19 before Theekshana had him leg-before.
Mitchell Marsh (25 off 20) and Rishabh Pant (21 off 11) tried to rebuild the innings but both of them failed to convert the start into big scores. Delhi lost half of their side for just 81 runs inside the first half of the innings. Rovman Powell was the last hope for them but he too was caught behind in the 11th over off Mukesh Choudhary.
In the end, Delhi was bundled out for just 117 runs. Chennai has again returned to winnings ways and their hopes of reaching the playoffs are still alive.
