Lahore Qalandars pulled off a sensational victory over Karachi Kings after winning the match by six wickets on Sunday. It was an absolutely remarkable innings from David Wiese for his quickfire 31 runs off just 9 deliveries as his side won the game with four balls to spare in the end.
Earlier, the middle order of Qalandars comprising of skipper Sohail Akhtar and Joe Denly failed miserably by getting out on duck during the batting powerplay. They were chasing a target of 187 runs posted by Karachi Kings, with their opener Sharjeel Khan top-scoring 64 runs off just 39 balls, followed by Mohammad Nabi’s 57 runs off 36 deliveries.
Shaheen Afridi looked overwhelming for the Kings as he rattled their opener, Babar Azam, cheaply in the 3rd over. He took his next two wickets in the form of Mohammad Amir (0) and Waqas Maqsood (12) and finished with the impressive figures of 3/27 and became the player of the match for his brilliant spell comprising of an exhibition of back to back yorkers.
Other bowlers except Mohammad Hafeez chipped in with a wicket each and restricted the Kings to 186/9 after 20 overs.
Chasing the total, Qalandars’ opener Fakhar Zaman looked in a menacing form from the first ball he faced and went on to blast the highest 83 runs off 54 balls, consisting of eight boundaries and four sixes.
Wicket-keeper Ben Dunk smashed 57 runs and combined 37 runs with David Wiese who himself looked in a great touch as could be reflected from his quick-fire 31 runs off just 9 balls and pulled off a sensational win by six wickets in the end.
With this win, Qalandars now jump to the second place in the points table with a tally of three win out of the four matches they’ve played so far. They are only behind Peshawar Zalmi who have the equal tally of victories and only ahead of them by a marginal net run rate.
This is the 11th consecutive time in the ongoing Pakistan Super League that the team chasing the total has won the game.
