DC vs RR, Match 36, Match Preview: Delhi Capitals (DC) will take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the 36th match of IPL 2021 on Saturday at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium. Delhi Capitals are coming into the game on the back of a comfortable 8-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Wednesday. They have now registered seven wins in 9 matches and thus find themselves at number two position on the points table.
The last game saw Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada playing together for the first time this season in Delhi Capitals’ jersey. In his first game this season, Norjte picked two vital wickets, including the wicket of David Warner.
Kagiso Rabada was also impressive, picking three wickets. Axar Patel gave just 21 runs and took two wickets as well. A collective bowling effort from DC denied SRH to stitch big partnerships. As a result, Sunrisers Hyderabad was bundled out for only 134 runs in the first innings. Shikhar Dhawan gave a great start to the side in the second innings even as Prithvi Shaw fell early.
Dhawan continued his fine form with the bat, scoring a composed knock of 42 runs off 37 balls. Playing his first game after coming back from injury, Shreyas Iyer made 47 off just 41 balls, including two fours and two sixes. Rishabh Pant supported him brilliantly as he too stayed unbeaten on 35 off 21 balls. Delhi Capitals, as a result of that, chased down the score in just 17.5 overs.
Facing them are Rajasthan Royals, who snatched victory from the jaws of defeat in their last game against Punjab Kings. Evin Lewis and Yashasvi Jaiswal gave them a fine start, while Liam Livingstone and Mahipal Lomror made significant contributions in the middle overs.
Thanks to the combined batting effort from all four batsmen, Rajasthan Royals finished at 185 runs in the second innings. At one stage, it looked like Rajasthan might cross the 200-run mark, however, Shami and Arshdeep Singh pulled it back nicely in the death overs.
The top four batsmen from Punjab made significant contributions with the bat and kept the required run rate in check. They were in the winning position until the 18th over of the innings. In the last two overs, only 7 runs were needed to win the game. However, two sensational last overs from Mustafizur and Kartik Tyagi dashed the hopes of KL Rahul and Co.
