Deandra Dottin played an extraordinary innings to propel the London Spirit to a thumping victory at Lord’s, crushing the Northern Superchargers by seven wickets to hand over them their maiden defeat.
Dottin, who is now the highest run-scorer of The Hundred women’s tournament, played an unbeaten knock of fifty runs off just 34 deliveries. After struggling to find form in the previous matche, the No. 4 position did her wonders as she smashed eight boundries, ending the match with consecutive boundries off Kalea Moore’s deliveries.
Tammy Beaumont also played an instrumental role in sealing the victory by scoring 42 runs off 36 balls, before getting dismissed Alice Davidson-Richards, who ended her 56-run stand with Deandra Dottin.
After the Superchargers lost the early wicket of skipper Lauren Winfield-Hill (1), Jemimah Rodrigues took charge and hammered 57 runs off 44 balls. Although she began slow, she picked up the momentum gradually and sticked a sizeable partnerships with Laura Wolvaardt and Alice Davidson-Richards, both of whom contributed 22 runs in 21 balls each.
Medium-pacer Sophie Munro clinched two wickets, registering figures of 2-20 from 15, while Deepti Sharma finished with 1-19 from 20. Freya Davies picked up another wicket to restrict their visitors at a total of 126 runs.
For the Spirit, Beaumont, who stiched a partnership of partnerships of 38 with Heather Knight (16) besides sharing a 56-run partnership with Deandra Dottin, did well in successfully foiling the efforts of Rodrigues.
Superchargers spinner Linsey Smith posed a threat to the home side, returning figures of 2-15, dismissing opener Naomi Dattani (8) and Knight. However, the pressure was lifted from the team with Beaumont’s third wicket partnership with Dottin. The team chased down the target with two balls remaining, Dottin giving it a perfect finish with her four.
London Spirit sits in the sixth positons in the standing, while Northern Supercharges lead at the second position.
