The Shikhar Dhawan-led squad travelling to Sri Lanka will undergo a 14-day quarantine in India (seven days of hard and seven days of soft quarantine) starting Monday. The squad is set to play a limited-overs series comprising three ODIs and as many T20Is against the hosts from July 13 onwards.
After the Indian squad arrives in Sri Lanka, they will play three intrasquad games in Colombo as part of their preparation for the limited-overs series.
A source in the know of events said that the Indian squad wanted to play a few practice matches before the series, but due to the COVID-19 situation at home, they have to play intra-squad games instead of against a Sri Lanka ‘A’ team.
“The Indians wanted to play some warm-up games against the ‘A’ team or a team that could be arranged, but the COVID-19 protocols made that a little difficult and that is when a request went to BCCI to play intra-squad games. So, the Indian team will now play one T20 game and two one-day games to prepare for the limited-overs series,” the source told ANI.
“The boys will assemble on Monday and undergo 14 days of quarantine with regular testing. While the first seven days will be a hard quarantine, the players can then train indoors for the next seven days. Post that they leave for Colombo,” the source added.
After completion of their 14-day quarantine period in India, the Shikhar Dhawan-led squad will leave for Colombo on June 28. Upon arrival in SL, they will undergo another 3-day long quarantine. Following this, they will start training in full-swing.
“As per the plan, the team after reaching Colombo will be in hard quarantine for three days before starting to train in quarantine till July 4. Post this period they can train normally in the bubble till July 12 and also play the intra-squad games,” the source said.
The series between India and SL will commence from July 13 an will continue till July 25. All matches will take place at the R Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.
