Indian all-rounder Washington Sundar, yet again, played a fabulous knock under-pressure against England on Friday. He came out to bat after Ravichandran Ashwin lost his wicket after making 13 runs off 32 balls. The match, at that stage, was evenly poised as India had lost 6 wickets for 146 in the second innings. Washington Sundar then stitched a wonderful 113-run partnership with Rishabh Pant and put India in a commanding position.
However, at the end of India’s innings, Washington Sundar walked off the pitch disappointedly. The all-rounder stayed unbeaten at 96 as India got bowled out for 365. Sundar ran out of partners and could not complete his century in the end. After playing a fabulous 85-run knock in Brisbane, the fans expected the young cricketer to bring up his maiden Test century only to be left distraught in the end.
Nevertheless, the young man’s efforts were appreciated by one and all. The cricket pundits heaped praise on the youngster’s fabulous knock. Indian wicket-keeper batsman Dinesh Karthik lauded Washington’s match-winning knock on Saturday.
Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “Washing’TON’ Sundar. I was waiting to write this…but it’s okay, I’m sure I’ll use this very soon! Fabulous knock @Sundarwashi5“
Indian spinner, Harbhajan Singh also appreciated his knock even as he felt sad on Washi missing out on a century.
“Feel sad for this young man @Sundarwashi5 deserved 100”, he wrote on Twitter.
India are on course to win the fourth Test Match and win the series. England in their second innings have lost 4 wickets for 48 and still trail by 112 runs. India currently lead the 4-match series 2-1.
