England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has announced a 17-member women’s squad for their one-off Test against India. Seamer Emily Arlott has received her maiden call-up for the match set to start from June 16 at the County Ground in Bristol.
Heather Knight will lead the squad while Nat Sciver has been appointed as her deputy.
Emily Arlott has been in brilliant form lately, and her latest performance in the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, during which she picked up a five-wicket haul, earning a call-up in the national squad. Another name added to the squad includes South East Stars captain left-arm pacer Tash Farrant. Also batting all-rounder Sophia Dunkley has also been included in the squad. She recently earned her first central contract by the ECB.
Head Coach Lisa Keightley said: “It’s been hard to pick a squad given the balance of needing cover in a COVID world while wanting to give players as much chance as possible to play cricket.
“We want players to have opportunities out in the middle so we’re looking to reduce our numbers slightly ahead of the Test to give the non-selected players that chance.
“I’m really excited by the summer ahead. We’ve been working really hard across the last 10 weeks, India are a strong side and it’s the beginning of a two-year journey for us that takes in two ICC World Cups, an Ashes and the Commonwealth Games.”
England will possibly prune the squad ahead of the Test to make players available for the next round of Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy.
