The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has named a 16-player squad for the England Women’s team that will tour New Zealand for their upcoming limited-overs series.
The England Women team is scheduled to travel to New Zealand for playing three ODIs and an equal number of T20Is against the White Ferns.
Vice-captain Anya Shrubsole will not be able to make it to the series and had to be dropped out due to her knee injury. Additionally, Katie George will also miss out on the series due to her stress fracture.
Left-arm seamer Tash Farrant and Sophia Dunkley have retained their places in the squad. Farrant was exceptional during Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy, leading to her selection in the squad. Dunkley played well during the last ODI against West Indies, aiding her in returning to the squad.
“We’re hugely excited about getting over to New Zealand and maintaining our commitment to play international cricket despite these challenging times,” Director of England Women’s Cricket, Jonathan Finch said.
“We have a really important 24 months in front of us with two ICC Global Events, the Women’s Ashes and the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. Our ambition is to be successful across all these events and this tour is the first step towards achieving that.
“2020 has provided many challenges, but under the leadership of Lisa and Heather we have a group of players who are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead,” Finch added.
The England team will fly to New Zealand on January 24 ahead of the ODI series commencing on February 23.
