ENG vs SA: Adil Rashid has rejoined the white-ball teams, to prepare for England’s next series against South Africa. The legspinner missed the match against India after receiving permission to make The Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca. Rashid is a member of the 15-person ODI team that includes seamer Matthew Potts. Potts made a strong start to his international career in the four Tests played at home over the summer.
Ben Stokes, England’s Test captain, is conspicuously absent from the T20I team after being given a break to manage his workload. Stokes appeared in just two games for the Northern Superchargers during the initial season. He will also not participate in The Hundred’s second season.
In the meantime, Jonny Bairstow returns to the squad for the shortest format. England is on the verge of preparing for the World Cup later this year. It will be held in Australia. Bairstow had missed the T20Is against India that came immediately after the Edgbaston Test. Legspinner Matthew Parkinson, who came in for the absent Rashid in both formats against India, has been left out of the ODI team along with Harry Brook.
On July 19, a three-match ODI series will kick off South Africa’s visit to England. Then, until September 12, there will be three T20 Internationals, followed by an equal number of Tests.
