ENG W vs SA W: England crushed South Africa in the first semi-final of the ICC 2022 Women’s World Cup on Thursday. They were brilliant in all departments of the game and, as a result, beat them by a big margin of 137 runs. England batted first and posted a huge score of 293 runs in the first innings. D Wyatt starred with the bat as she scored 129 runs in 125 balls, a knock which was laced with 12 fours.
Dukley also made a valuable contribution with the bat as she scored 60 runs in 72 balls. West Indies picked wickets in intervals but couldn’t stop the run-flow, courtesy of a super knock from Wyatt. S Ismail was the pick of the bowlers. She claimed three wickets for 46 runs in 10 overs. Besides, Kapp and Klaas picked two wickets each, while Khaka picked one.
In pursuit of that score, South Africa was bundled out for a paltry score of 156 runs in the second innings. They made the worst possible start, losing 4 wickets for just 67 runs. The likes of Goodwall, Luus, Du Preez, and Kapp all got starts but failed to convert that into big scores. South Africa, eventually, was bundled out for 156 runs. England was superb with the ball.
Katherine Brunt bowled a brilliant opening spell. Though, she couldn’t pick a wicket. Anya Shrubsole picked two wickets for 27 runs in 5 overs. However, it was Sophie Ecclestone, who ran through South Africa’s batting unit. She picked six wickets for just 36 runs in 8 overs. Ecclestone now has 20 wickets in 8 matches- the most in the tournament. Shabnim Ismail is second on the list with 14 wickets to her name.
