England vs New Zealand: After winning the first two Tests, England would be looking to win the third Test as well and register a series whitewash against New Zealand. The third and last Test match of the series begins tomorrow at Headingly Cricket Ground in Leeds. The Test match is scheduled to be played from 23 to 27 July 2022.
England has played exceedingly well in both the Tests. The batting unit has played admirably well. Joe Root was the star of the show in the first Test. He played a heroic knock to help the team take a 1-0 lead.
Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow played heroic knocks in the second Test and helped the team seal a series win. The openers, Alex Lees and Zak Crawley have done pretty well and England would be hoping that they give the team a strong start.
However, bowling is a concern. James Anderson has been ruled out of the third Test due to injury and Jamie Overton will replace him. He will make his debut on Thursday but the onus of picking the bulk of the wickets will be on the shoulders of Stuart Broad.
On the other hand, New Zealand would be boosted by the return of Kane Williamson to the team. He makes his return to the playing XI and will strengthen the batting unit. Daryl Mitchell is the biggest bet with the bat. He already has two centuries in two Tests and is currently the highest run-getter in the series.
Bowling remains New Zealand’s strength. It will be interesting to see if they add Neil Wagner into the playing XI for the third Test.
