The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced on Thursday that they have included James Anderson in England’s playing XI for the second Test between England vs Sri Lanka at Galle.

Anderson has replaced Stuart Broad for the second Test match of their Sri Lanka tour. The second match will commence on Friday, January 22. Anderson had missed the first Test of the series.

“England have made one change for the second Test against Sri Lanka starting on Friday in Galle. Lancashire’s James Anderson replaces Stuart Broad, who is rested,” ECB said in their official statement.

The England selectors have made the decision keeping in mind England’ upcoming four-match Test series against India. They have decided to give Broad a breather before the start of the India series. Broad managed to scalp three wickets in the first Test against Sri Lanka

With a comprehensive win against the hosts, England is leading the two-match Test series by 1-0. If England wins the series decider match as well, it will be their five consecutive away Test series win, a feat which they will attain since WWI.

England Test Playing XI: Joe Root (captain), Jos Buttler (wicketkeeper), Dominic Sibley, Zak Crawley, Jonathan Bairstow, Dan Lawrence, Sam Curran, Dominic Bess, Jack Leach, Mark Wood, James Anderson
