Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi is set to take part in the upcoming Everest Premier League, which is Nepal’s domestic T20 competition. He will be seen playing alongside Nepal’s superstar cricketer Sandeep Lamichhane.
Shahid Afridi will be playing for Kathmandu Kings in the T20 competition. The Everest Premier League will run from 25th September to 9th October at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground in Kirtipur.
Sandeep Lamicchane welcomed Afridi in a video message. While expressing his excitement over the same, he said,
“Welcome on board with Kathmandu Kings XI. All the boys are really excited to see you here on the field. And I personally know you are going to have a great time during your visit to Nepal. Can’t wait to see you joining the team.”
Interestingly, both Lamichhane and Shahid Afridi have known each other for a very long time. Sandeep Lamichhane made his international debut for the World XI team which took on West Indies in a hurricane relief exhibition match at Lord’s. Incidentally, Shahid Afridi also played for the same team. Lamichhane and Shahid Afridi have also played against each other in the Pakistan Super League.
Shahid Afridi recently confirmed his participation in the league.
“This will be my first visit to Kathmandu,” Afridi said. “I am very excited and looking forward to visiting.”
On being asked how many sixes are the fans going to witness from willow in the tournament, Afridi said, “That depends on the bowling on the day, but I will try my level best to entertain the people of Nepal,” he added
The tournament was originally set for December 2019. But after a string of postponements, the Cricket Association of Nepal finalized the dates of the Everest Premier League this year.
